Protect Sealing Tapes
Uncontrolled air leakage from all types of buildings is one of the major causes
of energy loss and CO2 emissions. Approved Document L recognises this and sets
minimum performance levels, albeit relatively low compared to continental Europe.
Air leakage is one of the most significant factors in inefficiently heated
buildings and studies have confirmed that air leakage can account for up to
a third of all heat losses in modern buildings. Air leakage also significantly
increases the potential for interstitial condensation to occur within building
elements. This can lead to insulation and structural degradation.
The Protect
range of sealing tapes has been developed to complement the Protect range of
roofing underlays, timber frame/cladding membranes and vapour control layers,
primarily to help reduce uncontrolled air leakage in both domestic and non-domestic
buildings. Sealing overlaps on wall and other membranes can contribute quite
significantly to reducing energy loss by air leakage.
The Protect Range of Sealing Tapes encompasses:
- Double sided tape 50mm x 50m
Double sided high tack transparent tape suitable for sealing overlaps of roofing
underlays, timber frame membranes, air barriers and vapour control layers
and for sealing Protect membranes to smooth surfaces. Can be used for external
or internal applications.
- Reflective reinforced single sided tape 75mm x 50m
Single sided high tack reflective aluminium spunbond reinforced tape suitable
for sealing overlaps of timber frame membranes, air barriers and vapour control
layers and for sealing around service penetrations. Can be used for external
or internal applications.
- Reflective single sided tape 50mm x 50m
Single sided high tack reflective aluminium tape suitable for sealing overlaps
of Protect VC Foil, Protect BarriAir and Protect GDB10 and for sealing around
service penetrations. For internal use only.
- Butyl nail sealing tape 30mm x 25m
Butyl tape with one high tack side, used to form a moisture tight seal between
Protect membranes and rafters, timber studs or counterbattens.
