FEBRUARY 10 - PROTECTED PERFORMANCE WINS BUSINESS

Housebuild timescales can be reduced, whilst building performance along with
site safety improved, with patented developments at Roof Profiles.
The innovative combination utilises Roof Profiles’ unique Edge Protection
System with construction materials from Glidevale including Protect TF200 Thermo
and Wunderlay membranes.
The Edge Protection System can eliminate the need for scaffolding whilst the
timber frame kit is erected, and assist in the milestones of the critical build
path. The Glidevale Protect membranes help ensure the entire structure is watertight
as soon as the kit is erected, enabling earlier access for follow-on trades
and thus further improving build time. Once the building is complete, the Glidevale
materials help optimise not only continued watertightness but improved thermal
emissions.
John Patterson, Roof Profiles Sales Director, comments, “The tighter
Building Regulations require a U value of 0.3W/m2K, which conventional build
paper cannot achieve. Glidevale’s Protect TF200 Thermo helps us achieve
0.25W/m2K, whilst Protect Wunderlay takes care of weatherproofing the roof
until the roof covering is laid.”
Protect TF200 Thermo provides a highly reflective yet permeable low emissivity
layer. When installed facing into an unventilated airspace, the material effectively
blocks infra red radiation and enhances the thermal performance of the airspace,
and hence the overall U value of the wall construction. As well as complementing
the wall’s thermal performance, TF200 Thermo has a water vapour resistance
of 0.5MNs/g, which meets the requirements of NHBC, TRADA and BS5250. It also
provides a second line of defence against water penetration during the construction
phase.
Protect Wunderlay is a strong yet lightweight type HR roof underlay which
can act as a temporary pitched roof covering during construction. It is proven
to be quicker and easier to fit than conventional bitumen1F felt, being easier
to handle and cut, and more resistant to tearing, producing labour savings
and accelerating the build process. In addition it is unaffected by temperature
during installation, unlike conventional 1F which can be brittle in cold temperatures
and soft in higher summer temperatures. Once the roof is completed, Wunderlay
provides a secondary line of defence against wind driven rain and snow and
is carries unrestricted certification with regard to wind uplift.
Both Protect TF200 Thermo and Protect Wunderlay have BRE certification, and
are part of Glidevale’s comprehensive Protect brand of roofing underlays
and structural building membranes. The company- part of the Building Product
Design Group- additionally supplies roofing and roof ventilation products aimed
at providing innovative yet practical solutions to changing market requirements.
