FEBRUARY 06 - "REDI" TO ROLL IN BICESTER
A new development of private and social
housing in the Cotswolds is using latest technology to
achieve compliance with Building Regulations and preserve
the aesthetics of the environment.
Lovell is building the 48 homes - Blenheim Gardens-
in the village of Launton, some of which it will sell
privately and a proportion of which are being built for
Charter Community Housing as a replacement scheme for
precast reinforced concrete properties. The traditionally
built homes use local materials for the fabric, with
a mix of clay and stone for the roofs.
Bicester Roofing, sub-contractor for Lovell on the project,
is using Glidevale's new Fulmetal Rediroll universal
dry fix ridge ventilation system on all the stone roofed
homes, which account for almost a third of the development.
A proprietary ridge ventilator was used on the clay tiled
roofs.
Claimed to be truly universal, Glidevale Fulmetal Rediroll
is a colour co-ordinated continuously ventilated aluminium
roll system which includes a unique mechanical fixing
for the ridge tiles. It is simply laid across the top
course of tiles or slates underneath the ridge tiles
to provide integral ventilation and resistance to rain
penetration, avoiding potential damp and condensation
issues in the roof void.
Its metal construction means it is rot proof and corrosion
resistant, ensuring a longer lifespan against conventional
fabric- or thin polymer-based systems. It eliminates
the need for ridge fillers and unions, fits all tile
profiles, and requires no special tools, meaning one
product can be used for all appropriate jobs, and regardless
of weather, increasing the roofers' productivity and
profitability.
Matthew Cresswell, of Bicester Roofing, commented, "We
thought we would try the Rediroll instead of alternative
mechanical fix ridge ventilation systems on the stone
houses. We have found it much easier to fit, and believe
that it works better in helping ensure adequate roofspace
ventilation once fitted. It is almost invisible once
the ridge tiles are fixed over the Rediroll- to the extent
we have had comments that we had not used any fixings
for the ridge tiles!"
