JUNE 05 - GLIDEVALE HELPS TAYLOR WOODROW ACHIEVE COMPLIANCE ON BROWNFIELD SITE

A 54-acre, £130million regeneration scheme alongside the Grand Union Canal in London will provide state-of-art eco-living with help from Glidevale Ltd.

Bryant Homes, part of Taylor Woodrow, is developing Grand Union Village over the next three years, building some 700 eco-homes ranging from one-bedroom apartments through townhouses to five bedroom detached houses, including affordable and key worker accommodation. The 200+ houses will all include AH5 loft hatches, with the apartment blocks incorporating LA6 loft hatches, all from Glidevale Ltd.

Glidevale loft traps are specifically designed to minimise air leakage and migration of water vapour into the loft space around the access to improve thermal insulation and air tightness, and reduce risk of condensation, in line with Building Regulations.

Easy to install, the brilliant white, scuff resistant traps are available with a choice of insulants and U values, including the required 0.35W/m2K set down in the Robust details of Document L, and are designed to exceed NHBC minimum opening requirements. The range includes options of push up or hinge-down opening, both featuring a turnbuckle latch mechanism, and a choice of sizes designed to accommodate standard batten centres. The AH5 hinge down version has a thermally insulated trap door with closed cell seal between door and frame, while the LA6 additionally provides the up to 1hour fire rating required in multi-occupancy buildings.

Nick Beswick, Glidevale Sales Director, elaborates, “With a conventional unsealed loft hatch, some 50% of vapour transfer by air movement occurs around the hatch cover. With a Glidevale sealed trap this is cut to almost zero. This makes our range of loft traps a sound option for eco-friendly homes where air leakage and condensation are minimised and thus energy efficiency is maximised.”
